Abbott Kinney Artist in Residence
This project is a modern, sustainably conceived and built project on one of the LA’s most unique pedestrian streets. This is a 4,900 sq foot, 3 bedroom residence that includes a skylit 30 foot high entry stair tower, southern oriented terrace, solar water and electric roof deck, chef/entertaining kitchen, 3 garage spaces, and separate entries to the residence and the 1st floor studio. Unusual for Los Angeles, the owner plans on working and living in the same residence, as well as having direct access to shops, cafes and restaurants on the front door step. The first floor is relatively open to the street for the expected commerce to take place here. The second floor draws a line of privacy and domesticity in the building which is continued onto the third floor and roof decks.
This residence implements environmentally sane and healthy components and building methods that are not only conscious of their impact today, but of the health of the planet and ecosystems of tomorrow. These measures are good for the whole environment, good for indoor air quality and good for reducing energy consumption.
