Malama Hawaii, Competition 2003
Our solution transformed the site into it's own ahupua'a--literally and figuratively, a political and ecological unit of land designed to meet the needs of the human community living within it. The school was envisioned as an Educational island and the Learning Center Site as an ahupua'a to be used as a teaching icon that embodies, illustrates and support the Hawaiian values of Malam, aloha, lokomaika'l, imi'ike, ho'okuleana and na'au pono.
